Feb 10 - 16, 2019 | Prima Wellness Ayurveda, Yoga + Wellness Retreat with Jessica & Jimmy Serra
Expand your spirit and deepen your roots into the sunshine, trees, and ocean gifted by Mother Nature! Experience a life changing wellness retreat where you will have the opportunity to cultivate personal growth, restore your connection to the self, explore the sacred sciences, revitalize your health, and embark on a mind-body-spirit immersion with nature!
Participants will be immersed in elective offerings of: daily yoga classes, meditation, wellness rituals, lounge time by the pool, delicious meals, beach excursions, stargazing, waterfall hikes, and flora + fauna rich exploration in one of the most beautiful places on the earth.
“The Sanctuary is one of a select few Retreat Centers in the world that was specifically designed and built by veteran yogis whose sole intention was to create a center that allowed visitors to commune with nature, practice yoga, contemplate, meditate, detox through Ayurveda, and become balanced through health and wellness.” (It is also one of only five Blue Zones identified in the world with the highest longevity rates, health, and happiness!)
Many retreats host 50 or more yogis at a time, which can feel impersonal and too “mainstream.” You will have a unique experience with a smaller group of 16 yogis and plenty of privacy to share as a couple and recharge in a tranquil atmosphere.
About Your Retreat Leaders
The retreat will be co-facilitated by integrative wellness innovators and husband-wife team Jimmy Serra and Jessica Serra. This compassionate duo leads a humanitarian lifestyle and love to help others lead healthy, happy lives in alignment with their soul’s purpose. You will find yourself feeling at peace and cared for in a safe and supportive environment.
Jimmy + Jessica are educators who facilitate workshops, trainings, and retreats in the realm of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Wellness on a consistent basis and consider it to be a great joy! They also see individual clients and groups for treatment at their wellness practice in CT. Their last retreat at the Sanctuary was in 2017 and the two have recently visited again in 2018. They are intimately familiar with the local area, community and its offerings from their yearly excursions to this beautiful and vibrant geographical location like no other.
On a synergistic side note: they have a special connection to the Sanctuary as they met there for the first time years ago on a yoga retreat! Years later, the two were married at Playa de Las Artistas beach just a few miles away. Developing such a profound connection through shared yoga, meditation, and mindfulness practices inspired the couple to support others in deepening their own relationships through these same vehicles of transformation.
The two have diverse education and credentialing in the following:
Ayurvedic Medicine (Ayurvedic Health Counselors)- National Ayurveda Medical Association Accredited Education, Yoga Yoga Alliance Certified (E-RYT200 Seasoned Instructors + IAYT Certified Yoga Therapist which requires 800 post 200 hour training + client contact), Holistic Nutrition through the Kripalu Center + Renowned Ayurvedic and Integrative Trainings, Mental Health (Jessica is on the Yale University Clinical Faculty team + a Licensed Holistic Psychotherapist to support with releasing any mental energies that need to be cleared), Fitness (Jimmy has provided personal + group training (boot camps,cardio-scuplting, + spinning), Energy Therapy (Reiki Practitioners), and Plant Medicine/Herbalism (Ayurvedic, Western, and Community Medicine trained; founders of a homegrown botanical company: Prima Plant Rx).
Jimmy and Jessica reside in Litchfield County, Connecticut (Northeastern USA) with their canine fur kids: Frankie, Bella, and Chloe. They enjoy the outdoors, travel, spending time on the water, good java, music, whole foods cooking, Netflix documentaries, hiking, wildcrafting plants + herbs, motorcycles, and supporting causes related to child and animal welfare.
What is the retreat focus
When it comes to love of any kind– the key to synergy lies in the foundation of your relationship with both yourself and with nature. Integrating the principles of yoga, Ayurveda (a traditional Indian medical system), and Eastern practices into your live tunes you in to harmonize with yourself and the world around you. With the stressors of daily living, we often lose sight of an ideal work-life-balance. We become disconnected from our truth and our radiance.
You will learn numerous tools that will serve to enhance your wisdom and wellness! The term Sacred Science includes all of the offerings that our team specializes in: Yoga + Eastern Practices, Ayurveda, Plant Medicine, and Healing through Nutrition. We teach these concepts routinely, but there is no better way to learn than through LIVING, EATING, MOVING, and BREATHING in complete and total harmony with mother nature.
What is Ayurveda: A holistic 5,000+ year old system of integrative medicine that focuses on mind-body-spirit health and wellness through nutrition, lifestyle, movement, self-care, and herbal remedies. Ayurveda is a preventative and restorative healthcare model that can benefit each and every human being due to its natural + individualized treatment protocols.
All Are Welcome: Individuals of all backgrounds, orientations, ages, and yoga experience (no yoga to advanced yoga) are encouraged to attend! This retreat is perfect for those actively attending to their health and wellness and also those who need a jump start, change, and strategic action plan to conquer mind-body-spirit health objectives! There is beauty in diversity and we need to transcend energetic barriers, negative beliefs, and apprehension to vibrate higher and be our best selves!
Your retreat leaders will guide you on a weeklong journey that you will remember for the rest of your life!
All participants will be provided with a schedule of events upon arrival so that you will know what to expect. Events are elective and retreat can be customized to your own unique objectives and wellness path!

“This Wildlife and Yoga Retreat Sanctuary is perched approximately 1000 yards slightly above the Pacific Ocean (an approximate 30 minute beach walk) in Cabuya at the southernmost tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, which is one of only five Blue Zones in the entire world by having a large concentration of centenarians living in the area. The Sanctuary is only two miles from Costa Rica’s first National Nature Preserve, Reserva Cabo Blanco, and neighbors to the quaint artistic beach-town of Montezuma and the surf towns Mal Pais and Santa Teresa.”
The journey to arrive to the Sanctuary is a one of a kind experience involving a beautiful river walk (or ride if needed) into this protected jungle oasis!
Each eco friendly zen loft is two stories high and places each guest at eye level with the jungle canopy and allows guests to soak in passing monkeys, singing birds, and scented floral trees. observation decks, hammocks and wonderful jungle vistas. They are powered by a high-tech Solar Power system, have green lighting, spectacular outdoor solar hot water showers with garden views, spacious bathrooms, second floor bedrooms, ceiling fans, and screened in walls giving you an up-close and intimate experience with nature. The Garden Tea House offers the same amenities + open 1 – floor living and even more privacy!
All Inclusive Gourmet Dining
Your trip includes daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Sanctuary’s talented plant-based chef creates three unforgettable “Tropical Fusion” vegetarian meals per day inspired by the world’s greatest cuisines. Vegan and gluten free meals can be incorporated depending on needs of our guests. Meals are designed around the seasons using Ayurvedic principles while incorporating the best and freshest local ingredients, herbs and spices. Chef Naga recently published his acclaimed book Gaia Gourmet that contains many of the beautiful recipes that will be served! You can order and take a peek in advance at the goodness that is in store….
According to Ayurveda, the most hearty meal of the day is lunch while dinner is typically lighter fare to support healthy digestion. The Sanctuary procures and serves all organic produce from local Costa Rican family farms that are “hecho con amor” (made with love)! Their organic Costa Rican coffee is amazing and perfect to sip after sunrise on the Sanctuary patio overlook. Lunchtime desserts will leave you enamored and awestruck at how something so delicious can be so healthy! Note: On our last retreat at the Sanctuary in 2017, a few carnivorous red meat eaters shared that the food was some of the best they had ever had ; ) Meat eaters will be sure to be pleased! There are also excursions that offer opportunities to dine out and sample the local cuisine.
On the Nicoya Peninsula you can expect brilliant sunshine, day after day, from mid December until April with a rare occasional rain shower.
The Pacific side of Costa Rica conveniently offers sunshine guarantee during the month of February- so we are in luck!! Temperatures average in the high 80’s/ low 90’s and cool down nicely at night. During this long and pronounced dry season many trees and shrub shed extra leaves that blossomed during the rainier month, which makes it easier for eco-tourists to spot animals.
Do not despair, you will still see beautiful blooms and greenage! Locals refer to the dry season as summer and this is also the high season for tourism.
On the 40 acres of Sanctuary property you will find a vibrant eco-system that is home to a wide array of flora and fauna. Howler and Capuchin monkeys, butterflies, armadillos, iguanas, coatis (called pizottes by the locals), anteaters, and much more!
Thoughts from past guests….
“There aren’t enough words to express the life changing benefits that we received from this jungle retreat. To name a few… peace, gratitude & mindfulness. Both Jimmy & Jess are wonderful co-creators of it all…. this is a must for anyone who dares to let go and be still.” – Christine Thorn (Wolcott, CT- USA)
“Jessica and Jimmy, the soulful, dynamic duo that makes up Prima Wellness put on such an incredible retreat in Costa Rica this past February that my husband and I were so blessed to be a part of. My husband and I were blown away so many times each day with the setting of the retreat tucked back into the jungle, the outrageously delicious food, the fun excursions and the positive energy flowing around us. We were able to strip away all of the hustle and bustle of home life and really do some soul work in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Some people may balk at the idea of a yoga retreat, but Jessica and Jimmy let everyone experience it at their own pace and never once made anyone feel like anything was mandatory. We could participate in as many activities as we felt was right for us which really helped everyone relax and stay comfortable in their own skin. We could just BE.
Jessica and Jimmy balance each other so beautifully and the retreat did a great job highlighting their strengths from their yoga flows to their workshops to their interaction with the participants. They were both so raw and open and helped set the tone for the rest of us to feel like doing the same. They are both phenomenal educators and taught us with ease all about the Ayurvedic lifestyle, yoga, and conscious activities. We came into it with an open mind and have come out of it stronger, healthier and with a bunch of amazing new jungle family members. We highly recommend all couples from new budding romances to seasoned pros to join them on this journey. The only negative is that we couldn’t extend the retreat for another week!! Two huge thumbs up!!” – Chelsea Kaneb (Torrington, CT- USA)
Prima Wellness will consult with guests from the US and abroad about recommended airlines, flight itinerary, and will be very happy to support with booking all travel plans. For our guests leaving out of the CT-NY-NJ area, we recommend a collective flight booking with the retreat leaders so that we can assist you with your travels and guide you through the entire travel journey! Newark, NJ airport is a recommended departure destination as it offers direct flights through United Airlines at a reasonable rate, which often alleviates the nuisance of layover delays and cancellations. There are other feasible flight options as well- we will walk you through every step of the way.
